Pages 3-13In condition-based maintenance (CBM), the underlying system (or an item) is preventively replaced if failure risk, which is calculated based on monitoring information, exceeds a pre-determined threshold. It is also replaced if, at any time, failure occurs. In the determination of optimal replacement threshold, it is often assumed that the failure replacement cost is constant. It is also assumed that inspections are performed at equal time intervals with no cost. However, these assumptions are not always true as, in practice; inspections may require labors, specific test devices, and sometimes suspension of operations. Thus, when inspection is considerable, performing inspections in short intervals incur large inspection cost. In contrast, if inspections are carried out in long intervals, the cost of failure replacements may significantly increase. This implies that there must be a trade-off between inspection costs and possible failure costs. Also, failure replacement cost may depend on the item's degradation state at which failure occurs and/or the time it fails. This is because, in some cases, failure of an item may affect other items and the later its failure occurs the more damages may be observed on the other components and, thus, the failure replacement of the item has to be performed at higher cost as it may require some other repairs on other components. In this paper, the two above-mentioned assumptions in the traditional CBM's optimization models are relaxed. A non-decreasing failure cost that depends on both the age of the system and the value of the covariates observed at inspections is considered. In addition, inspection cost is taken into account. Two types of inspection scheme, namely, periodic and non-periodic are considered for CBM. For each type of inspection schemes, the system's expected total cost per unit time is formulated in terms of the inspection scheme and the replacement threshold. Then, for obtaining the optimal periodic inspection scheme, the expected total cost is evaluated for all alternative periodic inspection schemes. For obtaining optimal non-periodic inspection scheme, A* search algorithm is employed to search through alternative inspection schemes to determine the optimal one. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the proposed approach. Keywords: Condition, based maintenance, inspection Scheme, non, decreasing failure cost, A* search algorithm, proportional Hazard Model

Pages 27-37In supporting environmental sustainability, managing product returns has become a very important and challenging issue. Responding to this trend, researchers in many parts of the world have conducted numerous studies in reverse logistics and reverse supply chain that were considered separately from the forward channel of supply chains. Meanwhile, there are opportunities to create added values from product returns and to improve efficiency when both channels are considered in an integrated way, as a closed loop supply chain. On the other hand, remanufacturing is a very appealing option among product recovery processes that has potential to increase the value of product returns. Inventory management in closed-loop supply chains is much more complicated than in traditional forward supply chains since returns are more uncertain than demands in terms of quantity, quality and timing, and also valuation and setting inventory holding costs of returns are not straight forward. In addition, correlation between demands and returns adds another dimension of complexity to such systems. In this paper, we address the inventory management issue in closed-loop supply chains, and develop deterministic and stochastic models for a three-echelon system with correlated demands and returns. We have analyzed the cost structure of the system from the inventory management point of view, and we developed a deterministic model as well as a stochastic model under continuous review and periodic review for the system. Then, we solved models with Genetic toolbox in MATLAB software and analyzed variation in parameters. Numerical examples shown that may not always lead to decrease cost if return rate increase, But it also depends on another parameters in inventory system. In this paper, we compare cost of continuous review and periodic review for the system. However, when managers want to choose their inventory system, they need to analyze all of parameters and then decide. Keywords: Closed, loop supply chain, inventory, return, genetic algorithm, correlation, multi echelon

Pages 39-51Railway is one the most fast and economical way of transportation. Construction of the new infrastructures is very expensive and also time consuming. So optimization of the railway network has an important role in the railway management which is divided to some major parts such as line planning, timetabling, crew scheduling and maintenance scheduling. Train scheduling is a significant issue in the railway industry in recent years because it has an important role in railway infrastructure. In this paper, the timetabling problem of a multiple tracked railway network is discussed. All of the parameters and decision variables are deterministic and static and there is no any uncerternity in the problem. More specifically, a general model with specific attention to ``Tehran Metro'' is presented here in which a set of operational and safety requirements are also considered. Transfer time between stations and dwell time related constraints imbedded in the model. In addition the model handles the trains overtaking in a station and innovatively considers the capacity of stations and shunt sidings. An objective function is to minimize the total travel time. It has been proved that the problem is NP-hard so the real size problem cannot be solved in acceptable amount of time. In order to reduce the processing time of the problem, first, we represent some heuristic rules to reduce the number of binary variables. These rules are based on parameters such as transfer time between two points, dwell time and safety time of stations. Furthermore, the logical conditions in the problem cause that the impracticable area from solution space is removed. These rules also allow us to reduce the memory and time considerably in compare to the original problem. Comprehensive numerical experiments with different number of trains, stations and capacities are reported to show the performance of the model and its proposed rules. The result shows that the computational time is considerably reduced and the global optimum of the optimization problem is achieved by using the heuristic rules. Keywords: Railway, timetabling, mathematical programing, heuristic method

Pages 53-66Production scheduling in the steel industry is a key component for productivity. It has been recognized as one of the most challengeable and complicated industrial scheduling problems. This research investigates the problem of steelmaking-continuous casting (SCC) multi objective scheduling as one of the most important units of steel industries. SCC is a high temperature and large scale logistics machining process with batch production at the last stage that identified as the key processes of modern iron and steel enterprises. This paper presents a mathematical model for scheduling this process based on actual production situations of technological constraints of SCC. According to the importance of on time delivery of products to the next unit (rolling) the objective considered two basic objective functions including 1) minimizing earliness and 2) minimizing lateness. The proposed model for this purpose is a nonlinear model. The model is converted to the mixed zero one linear model by some approaches that proposed in this paper. Model linearization help solve the model easier and faster. A solution methodology is developed in two-phase heuristic method. The first phase is a heuristic method based on branch and bound and the second phase is based on linear assignment technique. In the first phase a heuristic is presented at the beginning of the search in order to compute an initial upper bound. Proper branching schemes are developed and a method for reducing branches is established based upon the batch production in the continuous casting (CC) stage. The way of designing the algorithm according to the structure of proposed model of steelmaking-continuous casting, the initial upper bound, the method for reducing branches, proper branching schemes, and presenting a non- dominated solution are the features of the solution methodology. The computational experiments on randomly generated realistic problem indicate that the proposed algorithm with its features is capable of solving the proposed model quite efficiently. Keywords: Scheduling, steelmaking, continuous casting, batch production, branch and bound algorithm, linear assignment

Pages 67-71Remanufacturing is an industrial process in which worn-out products are restored to like new conditions. Environmental considerations, government regulations, and economic incentives motivate many businesses to engage in recovery activities. In recent years, more and more companies have initiated value-added recovery operations such as remanufacturing. Remanufacturing brings a product or product part up to an as-new quality. Since remanufacturing is often cheaper than manufacturing, this type of recovery can lead to considerable cost savings. Remanufacturing is an important element of product recovery. Product recovery management is concerned with the collection of used and discarded products and the exploration of the opportunities to remanufacture the products, reuse the components or recycle the materials. Remanufacturing is not only a direct and preferable way to reduce the amount of waste generated, it also reduces the consumption of new materials and energy resources. In this study we have introduced a multiple objective PINLP model that uses queueing theory to find the optimum number of machines in each station of remanufacturing facility. In our model, returned products (Products that returns for any reason such as unsatisfying consumers, used products and etc) comes to the testing station and after inspection the appropriate station is selected. This productions make a queue before entering to the stations and then the operation that is needed in a specific station is occured. the first objective function is minimizing the average waiting time in queue that is important for time sensitive products. the second objective function is minimizing the average idle time of stages. for this model we have used two methods to solve it. First method is L-P metric with two parameter p=1 and p=2 and the second method is Maximin. Due to the complexity of this nonlinear model we have represented two small instances, solved it with Lingo 11 and the results have been shown. Keywords: Remanufacturing, queueing theory, multiple objective decision making, optimization

Pages 73-85Profile monitoring is one of the new research areas in statistical process control in which the quality of a process or product can be characterized by a relationship between a response variable and one or more explanatory variables. This relationship, which can be linear, nonlinear, or even a complicated model, is referred to as profile. Most of the control charts in profile monitoring literature are designed on the basis of fixed sampling rate. In other words in the traditional control charts, samples with fixed size are taken at fixed intervals. Despite many advantages, these charts are not sensitive enough to detect small even moderate shifts. Consequently, in order to improve the performance of the conventional fixed sampling rate control charts, adaptive control charts have been proposed. When adaptive control charts are applied, one or more design parameters vary during the process based on recent data obtained from the process. As a result the process changes could be detected more quickly.looseness=1 In this paper four adaptive control charts are considered for monitoring simple linear profiles in phase II based on the multivariate T2 control chart. These charts include variable sample size (VSS), variable sampling interval (VSI), variable sample size and sampling interval (VSSI) and variable sampling interval with sampling at fixed times (VSIFT) T2 charts. The performance of the proposed charts is compared in terms of the average time to signal (ATS). To compute the ATS, the Markov chain approach is used. Numerical examples show that adding adaptive features to traditional control charts increase the power of T2 control chart in detecting the shifts in the parameters of the simple linear profiles. Among the mentioned adaptive charts, VSSI T2 chart is the most efficient one to detect shifts in slope and intercept while VSI and VSIFT T2 charts have the best ability for detecting shifts in standard deviation. Keywords: Statistical process control, profile monitoring, adaptive control chart, T2 hotelling

Pages 87-99In the operations research literature, the order acceptance and scheduling problem has been considered as a practical subject by researchers for a long time. This problem has been studied with various assumptions. In all previous studies of the literature it is assumed that manufacturers treat according to one type of penalty function with customers. But, in the real life situations, requests of customers are different and the manufacturers deal with different customers. So, in this paper it was attempted to tackle this deficiency by combining order acceptance and scheduling problem and multi-agent scheduling problem. So, it is assumed that two types of customers or agents exist such that the first agent gives penalty for tardiness and pays reward for earliness of its orders. But, for the second agent, tardiness of its orders is not acceptable. The problem objective function which is considered in this paper is maximizing the sum of profit of the first agent accepted orders in addition to sum of revenue of the second agent accepted orders such that no orders of the second agent are tardy. Besides, it is assumed that all of the first agent orders have equal processing time. It was shown that this problem is NP-hard in ordinary sense and in order to solve this problem, a heuristic algorithm and a pseudo-polynomial dynamic programming algorithm were proposed. To investigate the performance of these algorithms, their results of solving some problem instances were studied and to analyze the effects of factors, which were used in designing the problem instances, analysis of variance technique was applied. The results confirm the ability of dynamic programming algorithm in solving optimally 93.65% of instances up to 150 orders size within 3600 seconds. Besides, all instances with 60 orders size, 96.09% of instances with 100 orders size and 84.84% of instances with 150 orders size were solved optimally within 3600 seconds. In addition, the average relative percentage deviation of heuristic algorithm is 4.82%, which is shown the good performance of this algorithm. Keywords: Orders acceptance, Scheduling, lateness, number of tardy orders, analysis of variance

Pages 101-109Production sequencing and scheduling can be considered as an effective tool in optimally utilizing the resources. In the researches the production environment is normally considered as deterministic. In deterministic environment parameters of problem is predefined and fixed while Such an assumption is not true in a real life manufacturing firms. uncertain events make the processing time of jobs uncertain, which may disturb the completion time of jobs and produce makespan variations. These make span variations cause the jobs to accomplish after the expected completion time. Therefore, the researches on deterministic environment are not practically used and uncertainties need consideration in permutation flowshop scheduling. Therefore it is highly important to take the robustness of the schedules into consideration. In most of the studies, robustness measure used is to minimize the variations of a performance indicator in a schedule. These robust scheduling does not assure that the performance indicator will not exceed a certain limit when uncertain events occur. On the other side in the classical flow shop problem is assumed that intermediate buffers have infinite capacity and a job can be stored for unlimited amount of time. In practice, there are many production factories, in which the buffer capacity has to be taken into account, and there may be limits on the capacity of buffers so we consider blocking flow shop problem with beta Robustness of Make span performance measure. The performance of a number of heuristic and meta heuristic algorithms to solve a blocking flow shop is studied in 9 problems in different sizes. The results reveal the robustness of the proposed algorithms and the most robust algorithm in each size is identified. Generally we can say the Asynchronous genetic local search algorithm give better and more robust sequences with respect to other algorithms. It is followed by proposing potential areas for further researches. Keywords: Blocking flow shop, robust scheduling, meta heuristic algorithms, stochastic planning

Pages 111-118Remanufacturing is an industrial process in which worn-out products are restored to like new conditions. First method is L-P metric with two parameter p=1 and p=2 and the second methodis Maximin. Due to the complexity of this nonlinear model we have represented two small instances, solved it with Lingo 11 and the results have been shown. Keywords: Remanufacturing, queueing theory, multiple objective decision making, optimization

Pages 119-131Appropriate supplier selection method and order assignment play a major role in supply chain management. Supplier selection and order allocation problem have been studied in many papers up to now in single period without considering inflation. Decision making in multi period time horizon has many benefits such as economic savings comes from large size purchasing discounts. Increasing attention toward supplier partnership not only raises the importance of order allocation but also increases the significance of considering qualitative factors in this selection process. We proposed here a multi period problem considering inflation rate during purchasing periods that makes the problem much closer to the real situations. Supplier evaluation criteria in fuzzy multi criteria model are: cost, quality, service level and lead time which seem to be the most significant supplier evaluation criteria at the present time by considering intensive competition between different organizations. Here we use Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) with rough sets theory, the qualitative judgment can be quantified to make comparison more intuitive and reduce or eliminate assessment bias in pairwise comparison to help top manager in right decision making and giving weights to mentioned factors. Considering inflation in investment and purchasing during next periods, decrease attraction in decision making in next periods but it is reasonable than other situations without consideration inflation factor. We define a Fuzzy Multi Objective problem according to maximizing service level and Quality and minimizing Cost of Supply chain and Lead times. Finally a numerical example comes to validate our proposed model in real situations. Results of a computational example suggests that the model can help a manager determine the optimal set of suppliers to employ and make order quantity allocation among them. The use of the proposed model indicates that it can be applicable for improving the group decision making in sharing order among suppliers. Keywords: Supply chain, order assignment, fuzzy multi criteria decision making, inflation rate, multi feriod

Pages 133-138Axiomatic design technique is a scientific and systematic approach in system design, that accept of scientists and researcher in various scientific fields. The acceptance technique arising from using the independence axiom and information axiom in design so that has been created meaning different with other design technique. These principles present better design solutions in the shortest time as they provide a systematic research process in a design space which becomes complicated with customer needs. In addition, the fact that axioms can be generalized allows this method to be effective and powerful in different design areas. But the most important challenge for manager is ``how select to best design from system with different design based on AD''. Knowledge and experience designer in the use of principle has led to create the plan with different efficiency and utility. Selection Optimum design based on independence and information axiom and new indicator that introduced in this paper is called comprehensive principle that have closely relationship with constructive validity, content validity and criterion validity. This paper aimes to propose a framework for the evaluation of the validity of plan based axiomatic design technique. it is a system based approach where the principles of axiomatic design are relied on to provide a scientific structure for the design process. The concept of performance based design maintains that the primary goal of all members of the project team. We have provided a general method with practical algorithms for scoring alternatives, when they are evaluated on some common ordinal scale. Macbeth technique is a multiple criteria decision analysis that used as a tool for measuring utility the system structure and this study we use the M-Macbeth software. To reach a consensus decision on the opinions of 20 people in 5 projection and three criteria are used. Result is shown the Macbeth technique have better validity than other MCDM technique. Because Macbeth is humanistic, interactive, constructive and analyzing judgment inconsistence and offering suggestions to move the process forward. Keywords: Axiomatic design technique, MACBETH, multi criteria decision making

Pages 139-143Design of experiments is one of the most powerful tools in improving manufacturing processes that are begun by determining a test and selecting process factors. One practical technique which used for modeling and problem solving is response surface methodology (RSM).In this study, Design of experiments has been used to survey the effect of three controllable input factors (i.e., Eq carbon, perdurability time and oxygen) on response variable (i.e., the Oxide scale consists of preheating furnace).Since all combinations of steel are effective in the oxidation, based on the definition American Society of Materials, carbon equivalent was used which actually contains carbon, manganese, chromium, silicon, molybdenum, vanadium, copper, and nickel This paper has been studied the effect of three input factors: carbon equivalent in percents, time in minutes and the ratio of oxygen/gas on quality of the product. The experiment was done by 23 factor plan and 5 center point, 6 pivotal points and 95 confidence level. After examination of the factors and the recognition of the effective factors, according to application of response surface methodology, the relationship between the related variables of the effective input factors and the response surface variable is determined using regression model. Finally, the optimum value of each variable in the regression models is obtained by goal programming method. Keywords: Response surface methodology, design of experiment, scale, linear programming method
